Where can I exchange currency in Chengdu?

You do not usually need a huge cash strategy for Chengdu, but if you want some RMB backup, these are the most realistic options:

🏧 ATMs (Often the easiest)
- Usually the simplest way to get a modest amount of cash
- Use major bank ATMs
- Withdraw only what you actually need rather than carrying a large amount

🏦 Bank Branches
- Major banks like Bank of China are the most traditional exchange option
- Bring your passport
- Better if you specifically want currency exchange rather than ATM withdrawal

✈️ Airport
- Fine for emergency backup cash
- Useful if you land without any RMB and want a little buffer
- I would not treat it as the best-value default

🏨 Hotels
- Sometimes possible, but not something I would build the plan around
- Better treated as convenience, not the main strategy

What I would actually do:
Set up Alipay first, keep a small cash backup, and top up through ATMs or bank branches only when needed. Chengdu is a mobile-payment city, so cash matters less than many first-time visitors expect.
