Is Chengdu good for family travel?

Yes, Chengdu works very well for families, but only if you plan around energy instead of attraction count.

Why it works:
- the Panda Base is a high-certainty win with children
- the city still feels good when the day is light
- there are enough parks, tea-friendly pauses, and easy meal options to keep the trip stable
- compared with some bigger China city trips, Chengdu is more forgiving when you slow it down

What a good family day looks like:
- one major anchor, usually the Panda Base or one easy cultural stop
- one smaller second layer like a park, dessert break, or short old-street walk
- an early decision to simplify if weather or energy drops

What families often get wrong:
- planning too many long walking blocks
- treating famous snack streets like half-day activities
- assuming every meal needs to be spicy for it to count as Chengdu food

My honest advice:
3 to 5 days is a better family range than trying to speedrun the city. Pay a little more for an easier hotel area, use DiDi when the day is tired, and let pandas, food, and one or two gentle city experiences do most of the work.
