What are the best day trips from Chengdu?

Chengdu is a great base for amazing day trips to nearby attractions:

🗿 Leshan Giant Buddha
- Distance: 150km, about 2 hours by high-speed train
- What to see: World's largest stone Buddha statue carved into a cliff
- UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Perfect for: One full day trip
- Can do: See the Buddha from the river boat and from the cliffside path

⛰️ Mount Qingcheng
- Distance: 60km, about 1 hour
- What to see: One of the birthplaces of Taoism, beautiful mountain hiking
- UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Two parts: Front Mountain (cultural) and Back Mountain (nature hiking)
- Perfect for: Nature and hiking lovers

💧 Dujiangyan Irrigation System
- Distance: 55km, about 1 hour
- What to see: Ancient irrigation system still working after 2,000 years
- UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Combine well: Usually combined with Mount Qingcheng on the same day trip

❄️ Jiuzhaigou National Park
- Distance: 330km, about 8 hours by car/bus
- What to see: Stunning turquoise lakes and waterfalls in the mountains
- UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Note: Too far for a day trip - better overnight 2-3 days
- Stunningly beautiful - worth the trip if you have time

🏔️ Mount Emei
- Distance: 150km, about 1.5 hours by train
- What to see: Sacred Buddhist mountain, golden Buddha statue, wild monkeys
- UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Best: Overnight trip to see the sunrise
